php-net-whois software package provides PHP PEAR module for querying whois services, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install php-net-whois
php-net-whois is installed in your system.
Make ensure the php-net-whois package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep php-net-whois *
You will get with php-net-whois package name, version, architecture and description in a table
